Job Description

The importance of clear, empathetic communication in healthcare settings cannot be overstated. The Children's Refugee Shelter, in association with Teneo Linguistics Company, understands this significance and is seeking a certified Medical Interpreter. In this role, you will become a vital communication bridge between our young refugees and our dedicated medical team, ensuring that each interaction is defined by understanding, compassion, and respect.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate, timely interpretation services between healthcare providers and patients within the onsite medical clinic and pharmacy, with a focus on understanding and respect.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and uphold all ethical guidelines and standards of medical interpretation.
  • Educate healthcare providers about the effective use of interpreting services.
  • Assist with the translation of written materials, such as medical instructions and healthcare information, ensuring they are accessible and understandable.
  • Simplify medical jargon into language that is easily understandable for the children.
  • Show sensitivity to cultural differences and provide culturally competent services.
  • Assist with coordinating care and scheduling appointments as needed.

Requirements

  • Certification in Medical Interpreting from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a medical interpreter.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish. - Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and protocol.
  • Exceptional listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
  • Experience interpreting in behavioral health scenarios is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
